Who We Are

How we work

CITARD is focused on using technology to improve the lives of people living in rural communities. We source for technologies that are affordable, durable and have great potential to improve the lives of poor people.

Our main interest is in making clean energy and energy efficient technologies available to all communities through donating a solar lamp, long term financing and direct sales of solar products, clean cook stoves and water purifiers.

Through our profitable business model, we train Village Energy groups and empower them with the right tools and skills to start and manage a business. Support is also given in terms of market activations where we meet communities during market days and train them on the advantages of adopting our clean energy and energy efficient products. This creates awareness in the community and also markets for our Village Energy Groups.

DONORS MAKING A DIFFERENCE WITH A $20 SOLAR LAMP.

Donors from around the world are making a difference by donating to underprivileged families in Uganda solar lamps in a bid to reduce dependency on expensive, inefficient and polluting kerosene lamps. A fundraising was done in Denver, Colorado in December 2015 and 219 lamps were donated. These lamps are given out to those families that are not able to afford as they live on less than $1 a day. These families have school going children who need to read and do homework in the evenings, elderly people who are sickly and women who have infant children that need special care.

LIGHT UP A VILLAGE

Light up a village project employs a profitable business model to bring Clean energy to communities in rural off-grid communities in Uganda. We train village energy entrepreneurs and technicians with the right skills to market and repair our highly tasted and durable solar lighting and phone charging systems from Barefoot power. The project is designed to meet up-front purchase costs so that our beneficiaries pay slowly over an agreed period of time. This flexibility has helped many families who could not afford the lamp sum payments for the systems to do so.

SMART KITCHENS, HEALTHY LIVES.

The smart home project is a partnership between CITARD and UP Energy Uganda to promote the adoption and use of energy efficient high quality cook stoves that are manufactured locally in Uganda. CITARD is using a profitable business model to reach out to our beneficiaries through working with sales agents, organized village groups, schools and direct sales to families. The stove model is 11% more thermally efficient than most clay stoves used by many families in Uganda and 7% more efficient than the next best energy-efficient stove currently on the market. (Research based on CREEC’s 2014 stove testing findings.)

CLEAN WATER, HEALTHY LIVES

Only 65% of Ugandans have access to clean water and the rest still face the challenge of using dirty and contaminated water. CITARD is working with UP Energy to provide water filters to communities and families in a bid to accelerate access to clean water. We do this by training and sensitizing communities about the benefits of clean water to their livelihoods. We then link them to our Village Energy Entrepreneurs who sale and service the systems within the community.
